Emma Fukuwatari Huffman is a designer practising and researching mending. Her first mend was patching the holes in the knees of her trousers as a child. She believes mending is an act of care and rebellion much needed today, and hopes to expand and challenge its meaning. After graduating with a design master’s degree at the Kyoto Institute of Technology with her project “Mending with Mycelium,” Emma, along with her collaborator Danika of Studio A-lot-of-things, has been developing mending workshops to reflect on and connect with our garments.
